This book makes clear that Contrology was much more a therapeutical method than a "fitness program", since the prescription for most exercise never exceed 6 repetitions (some of them are only 3 reps exerecises). The book is short, succinct, and effective. Mr. Pilates put together an effective resource in this book which describes his philosophy towards fitness connected with a persons liveliness and health, and explains how this program invigorates the user. I will rather master these exercises before continuing towards what pilates has become today. I am a fit person who often does kettle bells, yoga, occasional barbell weights, and more, and I found myself cringing a few times with seemingly simple movements from this book. Tread carefully! Yet an excellent resource.
A good overview and history of Mr. Pilates' method.Pilates is a wonderful series of exercises for the back and overall posture.
Interesting book on Joseph Pilates' background and also the exercise as he intended them to be. A very easy, short book but interesting for one who has done pilates exercises before, and for those new to these easy, yet very effective exercises.
I needed this book for my Pilates teacher training. It includes history of Joseph Pilates & how he came to create contrology, currently known as pilates. It has photos & full instructions of how to complete each exercise. This book only covers the original mat exercises.
This copy is missing the section "A Basic Fundamentals Of a Natural Life" written by Pilates. This copy only has the exercises, which for some, that is fine. But if you would like to have more insight to Joseph Pilate's fitness philosophy (and almost everything else from sleeping, diet and clothing choices) this is not the copy you want.
A great book to start your Pilates Journey. View the method how it was intended through the original words of Joseph Pilates. All instructors must read this book prior to training. Great for seasoned students too.
